Expanding Our Apiary
At Be. Local, we're thrilled to announce the addition of several new hives to our growing apiary. This expansion not only increases our honey production capacity but also reinforces our commitment to sustainable beekeeping practices.
Selecting the right location for our hives is crucial for the health and productivity of our bee colonies. Our new hives are strategically placed to ensure optimal conditions:
Sunlight Exposure: Positioned to receive morning sunlight, helping bees start their day early and maintain hive warmth.
Protection from Elements: Located in areas shielded from strong winds and excessive afternoon sun, ensuring a stable environment.
Accessibility: Placed at a comfortable height and distance to facilitate regular inspections and maintenance without disturbing the bees.
Proximity to Flora: Situated near diverse flowering plants, providing bees with ample nectar and pollen sources.
Our beekeeping team follows a meticulous process to ensure each hive is set up for success:
Foundation Preparation: We start by placing sturdy hive stands on level ground to keep hives elevated and dry.
Hive Assembly: Each hive is carefully assembled, ensuring all components fit securely to protect against pests and weather.
Bee Introduction: New bee colonies are introduced during the cooler parts of the day, allowing them to acclimate peacefully to their new environment.
Monitoring and Support: Post-installation, we closely monitor the hives, checking for queen activity, brood development, and overall colony health.
Expanding our apiary contributes positively to the local ecosystem:
Pollination: Our bees play a vital role in pollinating nearby crops and wild plants, supporting biodiversity.
Education: The new hives provide opportunities for community education about the importance of bees and sustainable practices.
Honey Production: With more hives, we can offer a greater variety of honey products to our customers.
